Andrew Groom started as a broker in Lloyd’s in 1985 with Sedgwick/Price Forbes moving on to Lloyd Thompson in 1990. He crossed over to underwriting in 1994 and subsequently helped to establish Managing Agency Partners in 2000 where he remains an Underwriting Partner. He became a Trustee in 2019.

Ajay Gupta has worked in the London and Lloyd’s insurance market for over 30 years. He currently provides consultancy and advisory services to the insurance and reinsurance market having previously been the Chief Underwriting Officer of a Lloyd’s managing agency. He has served on the Lloyd’s Market Association’s Academy and Strategy Committees working across the Lloyd’s market and is a Freeman and Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Insurers. He became a Trustee in 2020.

Mark Aylward has been part of the Lloyd’s market since 1999. Working for a number of insurance broking companies over the years, he is a great supporter of the Lloyd’s community and the people who are linked to it. He became a Trustee in 2018.

Sally Coryn started her career in Lloyd’s in 1983 and has held executive and board-level roles in several Lloyd’s managing and members agencies, as well as a senior role in Lloyd’s, where she formed its Investor Relations and Market Relations functions. She has also worked for and advised new business start-ups in the market. She became a Trustee in 2018.

James Cooper started his career in 2003 as a Lloyd’s broker, working at Heath Lambert and later Alexander Forbes. Since then, he has built a career as an Executive Search consultant working with Lloyd’s managing agencies, brokers and insurance companies. In 2016, James founded and now runs Damhurst & Co, a leadership and insurance-specialist headhunting business based in London. He became a Trustee in 2021.

Shazia Deenally has worked in insurance regulation, compliance and policy for over a decade, with a particular focus on international regulatory engagement. Shazia has a law background and is a strong advocate for inclusion in the insurance sector, having chaired a social mobility network and held committee and network roles supporting inclusion initiatives across the industry. She has been a Trustee since 2022.

Marianne Harvey is Chief Operating Officer at AEGIS London, a Lloyd’s managing agent, having joined the company in 2012 as Head of Internal Audit. Prior to entering the insurance industry, she held various financial services audit positions at PwC and Rothschild. Marianne is a member of the Lloyd’s Market Association’s Operations Committee as well as being a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. She became a Trustee in 2024.

Marcella joined the Lloyd’s market in 2018 and is currently the Chief Human Resources Officer at Arch Insurance International. She has held roles in financial services, IT and the Civil Service and has not-for-profit experience whilst living in Mexico City and Ghana. She became a Trustee in 2024.

Simon White has worked in the Lloyd’s market for over 38 years, holding various claims management roles with Lloyd’s managing agencies, including Sturge, RGB, DP Mann and Heritage. More recently he was one of the founders of Apollo Syndicate Managing Agency which manages multiple syndicates and where he was Board Director responsible for Claims Management. He became a Trustee in 2025.

Debbie Whetstone has had a variety of roles in both the public and private sectors over the course of her career. She spent the first 15 years of her working life at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, which included postings overseas. She then joined a London property development and investment company, where she worked until 2018, before joining the Department for Work and Pensions.

Debbie was appointed Secretary of the charity in September 2021. Her principal responsibilities are to establish and understand the needs of potential beneficiaries, present these for the Trustees’ consideration and to nurture a trusting relationship with our ongoing beneficiaries.
